Listed below will be the offender’s name and address and whether they are a (S) sex offender or (V) violent offender. If they are a sex offender their tier level designation, (1, 2, 3, or Non if they are non -designated). The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office is releasing this information pursuant to MCA 46-23-508 which authorizes law enforcement agencies to release any offender registration information relevant to the public if the agency determines that a registered offender is a risk to the safety of the community and that disclosure of the registration information may protect the public. The individuals who appear on this list have been CONVICTED and sentenced or in custody for a sex offense after July of 1989 or a violent offense after October of 1995 that requires registration with the Sheriff’s Office in the county of their residence. Pursuant to MCA 46-23-509, some sexual offenders may be given an evaluation that places him/her in a tier level that reflects the POTENTIAL to re-offend. Tier levels also assess the threat that the offender poses to public safety. Sexual offenders registered in Montana should have a tier level designation if they were sentenced in Montana on or after October 1, 1997, which is when the Montana Legislature required courts to assign tier levels. VIOLENT OFFENDERS are not issued a tier level. Sex offenders who have not been given an evaluation will NOT have a tier level designated.

If an offender was given a level designation, the agency shall give the public notice that may include the offender’s name and exact address, the type of victim targeted by the offense, photograph and physical description of the offender, the offense for which the offender is required to register, and any conditions imposed by the court upon the offender for the safety of the public.

LEVEL 1 – The risk of a repeat sexual offense is low;
LEVEL 2 – The risk of a repeat sexual offense is moderate;
LEVEL 3 – The risk of a repeat sexual offense is high, there is a threat to public safety, and the evaluator believes that the offender is a sexually violent predator.

Violent offenders are not given a tier level designation

A tier level designation has not been given – sex offenders who were sentenced prior to the enactment of tier levels in 1997 will not have a tier level designation. Sex offenders convicted federally or in another state will not have a tier level designation.
(you will see “non” by their name). You are entitled to the name and address of any registered offender in the state of Montana (46-23-508(1)(a). You are also entitled to any offender registration information relevant to the public regarding an offender whom a law enforcement agency has determined is a risk of safety to the community (MCA 46-23-508(1) (b). This information is provided to enhance public safety and protection, not to increase fear. Sex and violent offenders have always lived in our communities, but law enforcement was not allowed to share this information with you.

After passage of this law, we are now allowed to share this information. The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office has no legal authority to direct where a sex or violent offender may or may not live unless court ordered restrictions exist. Civil misuse of the information may subject that person to civil damages. Anyone who uses information contained in the Sex/Violent Offender Registry to commit a criminal act against another person is subject to criminal prosecution.

The Sex/Violent Offender Registry changes constantly and should be updated every week. Although every effort is made to keep this list accurate and current, the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office cannot guarantee the accuracy of this information.
