The Blaine County Library

The Blaine County Library in Chinook, Montana, represents a network of community-focused library activities that serves residents across the Hi-Line and surrounding areas. Rather than a single centralized system, library services in Blaine County are delivered through a combination of local public libraries—in Chinook and Harlem—along with nonprofit and state supported institutions that collectively provide access to information, education, and cultural resources.

1. A mobile phone with text messaging enabled.

HOW TO SIGN UP
If you already have a Blaine County Library card, send a text message with the word “signup” to 406-215-4240. You will receive replies asking for your library card number and PIN.

Signing Up for SMS (Text) Notifications in Enterprise

What is SMS?
SMS stands for Short Message Service, commonly known as texting. Specifically, SMS sends text-only messages of up to 160 characters to mobile devices. You can currently opt into text notifications for overdue notices, which include courtesy (day-before-due) notices, hold pickup notices, direct messages, and/or general announcements from your library.
Signing Up for SMS Notifications in My Account
To sign yourself up SMS text notifications:
1. Visit your library’s online catalog.
2. Click My Account.
3. Log in using your card number and password.
4. From the Personal Information tab of your account, click the SMS (Text) Notifications section.
5. Click Add SMS Notification.
6. Enter a label, e.g. cell, your 10-digit phone number, then choose which notices you would like to receive via text.
7. Click Save.

To stop receiving SMS text notifications from your library:
1. Visit your library’s online catalog.
2. Click My Account.
3. Log in using your card number and password.

Montana History Portal

The Montana History Portal is an online source for digital collections relating to Montana’s cultural heritage. In part, these collections document the Montana experience. Access is free and open through the Internet. Many of these items are digitized copies of historic material, some items are contemporary. All serve as a resource for education, business, pleasure, and lifelong learning.

Ready 2 Read

Early literacy is everything that children know about language before they actually start learning how to read and write. Language and literacy development begin right at birth. You can build on what you are already doing with your child by exploring all the information available from the Montana State Library and helping your child get “Ready2Read.

Educate Station

Educate Station content is created by a team of experienced
and passionate educators from across the United States. Their educators bring vast subject-matter expertise, teaching credentials, and many years of experience as classroom teachers and curriculum developers. Through the content they create, they aim to provide ready-to-use, hands-on activities for kids
​to do at home or at school. The Educate Station team is committed to inspiring joyful learning and supporting kids, teachers, and parents.

World Book Web​

The World Book Web is a suite of online research tools that includes encyclopedia articles, primary source collections, educator tools, student activities, pictures, audio, and video, complemented by current periodicals and related Web sites.

Calendar of events

Summer reading

Your child(ren) are invited to join the Blaine County Library’s Summer Reading Program! Join us for fun activities and events we are planning for children of all ages.

The fun will start with a kickoff to summer on May 30th. The proceeding week (June 2nd) begins our “Artful Adventures”, where the children will read books and explore different aspects of art and expression.

Children who join the summer library program will keep their minds active and have the chance to take part in exciting programs. An added benefit is that they will enter school in the fall ready to learn and succeed.

Reading Time Log

Cross out the circles for every 15 minutes read. After an hour has been read, bring your paper into the library. We will check your progress and provide a slip you will sign to be entered into the prize drawings!

Deputy Chris Adair has been with the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office since August of 2012. Since then he has become the Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Armorer, Deputy Coroner, and the Senior Operator for Blaine County’s breath alcohol testing equipment. He also is the DUI Task Force Coordinator. He lives in Chinook with his wife and 2 sons. Previous to living here they were residents of Flathead County.

John Colby started his career in Law Enforcement with the Blaine County Sheriff's Department in 1996 as a Detention Officer/Dispatcher. In 1998 he began working with the Harlem Police Department where he served as a patrolman and later as the Chief of Police. In 2001 Harlem consolidated its law enforcement with the Blaine County Sheriff's Department and John Colby remained as a Deputy Sheriff. In 2002 John accepted a job with the Williston Police Department and served as a patrolman and later as a senior patrolman. In 2007 John left the Williston Police Department and went to work for Dyn-Corp in Konduz Afghanistan training the Afghanistan Nation Police. In March 2010 John was returned to Chinook and accepted a position as a Deputy Sheriff with the Blaine County Sheriff's Department. John was promoted to the Lieutenant of the Blaine County Sheriff's Department in 2012. John is one of the Taser Instructor's, Field Training Officer, K9 Handler, and was recently assigned to the Tri-Agency Drug Task Force. John and his wife Dawn have two children JJ, and Aspyn.

Robo joined the Blaine County Sheriff's Office in October of 2013. He resides with his handler Sheriff John Colby.

Deputy Levi Gonzalez joined the Blaine County Sheriff's Department in January 2018. Levi studied Criminal Justice at Utah Valley University and Excelled in courses such as Criminal Justice, Forensics, and Criminal Law. Along with some formal education, he has trained with professional firearms instructors, and in hand-to-hand combat, to help him pursue his career in law enforcement. He moved to Montana with his wife in March of 2013 and owns a small ranch in Blaine County where he runs a small cow/calf operation. He looks forward to serving Blaine County, where he is happy to call home, with his wife, daughter and son, for many years to come.
